Speaking at a Fine Gael fundraiser on Wednesday, Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary referred to Ireland’s state broadcaster RTÉ as a ‘rat-infested North Korean union shop’.

O’Leary spoke in front of some of Fine Gael’s leading politicians including Michael Noonan, Leo Varadkar and Simon Coveney at the Shelbourne Hotel on Wednesday and used his time speaking to vent about various Irish institutions.

The Mullingar man accused RTÉ of “peddling the views of hard-left union Trotskyites,” according to the Irish Times.

The airline CEO, who is known for his uncompromising opinions, also took aim at striking Gardaí – saying that they should be sacked. His stance reflects the opinion he expressed earlier on this year about the Luas drivers, whom he referred to as “headbangers”.

The Irish Times further reported that Noonan introduced O’Leary as “Ireland’s leading altogether decent man” and that his speech, which also criticised striking bus drivers, was well-received.

O’Leary also took aim at the Bus Éireann staff for seeking a sit-down with Minister for Transport Shane Ross rather than company management.
