If you are due to travel today, check with the airport right now to confirm your flight has not been affected.

Ryanair confirmed that they were cancelling 150 of their 400 flights to and from Germany today (Wednesday 12 September) due to industrial action taken by German pilots and cabin crew.

Thousands of passengers face travel disruption due to the 24-hour walk-out, which began at 3am on Wednesday morning, when trade unions for the staff confirmed that talks with Ryanair management were deadlocked.

In retaliation, Ryanair have announced that they may have to close some bases and cut jobs in Germany if the work stoppages are to continue.

Earlier this week, Ryanair passengers may face even more travel chaos following a threatening statement released by cabin crew in five countries which claimed that “the biggest strike action the company has ever seen” may be looming.

The impending potential strike has been threatened by unions in Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands, who are insisting that their work contracts should be drawn up in their own countries rather than in Ireland, which is the system they go by now.

A statement by those threatening the strike action read as follows:

“On September 20, the shareholders will have the opportunity to place Ryanair on the right track and ensure a long and sustainable model more suitable to the Europe of the 21st century by capturing the right talents to bring Ryanair to the level that we all want to see it.

“If the company leadership is not willing to make the changes necessary, (the workers) will have no choice but to respond with the biggest strike action the company has ever seen.”
