Today marks the World Left Handers’ Day and to mark the occasion Ryanair has launched a 100,000 seat sale, which must be booked online with your left hand.

With roughly 10 per cent of the world left-handed – Ryanair estimates that 8.1 million of their customers are that way inclined – the company has decided to pay homage to them on this special day.

The masters in publicity stunts could not let an opportunity like this slip through their fingers and the airline has announced that it will only be accepting boarding passes from left hands, tea and coffee on board is to be served in left-handed cups (we hadn’t heard of such things either) and all carry-on luggage must be carried on with you guessed it, a passenger’s left hand. Michael O’Leary knows only too well the plight of left-handed folk.

“As one of the 10% of the world’s population blessed with a  strong left hand, I know all about the difficulties faced by fellow lefties,” he said today.

And not only that, Ryanair has announced a 100,000 seat sale across its entire European Network with prices starting at €19.99, but the good news is that it is not just confined to lefties. What a shock indeed.

“Right handers can also avail of these fares, at no extra cost, provided they too use their left hands,” O’Leary assured the public.

When it comes to generating publicity, they really are never left wanting.
