Scandinavian winds are causing cold weather, and they’re not going away yet

Alan Loughnane

Have you been for freezing the last week? There’s a reason why…

Scandinavian breezes have been causing freezing temperatures in Ireland over the past week and they look set to continue for at least another day.

According to Met Eireann, strong east to northeasterly winds will continue today making it feel much colder than the temperatures of 3-6 degrees suggest.

Periods of rain will break out as the day continues with some of these turning to sleet and now, especially on higher ground.

Overnight, the rain sleet and snow will die away in many places but it will remain wet over the south of the country.

Temperatures will fall to between 1 and 3 degrees tonight with the risk of some frost early on.

But tomorrow should be a much milder day with a easterly breezes not quite as chilly as the we’ve experienced in the last week.

Temperatures should rise to between 7-10 degrees during the day with mainly dry weather and some isolated showers in the south of the country.
