Scotsman Richard Macrae got an unusual present from his mates for his birthday, but rather than sulk, he put it to good use.
He was given the joke birthday gift from his mates over four years ago when they created a fake 'Ginger Discount Card' for him. Richard soon tested it out in various bars, restaurants and taxis and has claimed to have saved at least £200 in that time. The Aberdeen man claims that most people realise that it is fake, but enjoy the banter and have decided to give him the discount anyway.
He told The Daily Record "I ask places if they do the ginger discount and when they look confused, I show them my card. Usually, everyone gets the humour behind it. Some wonder if it’s real but most get the joke. I’ve saved a couple of hundred pounds – with money off booze, taxis, food and club entries."
It hasn't been all plain sailing though, as he said: “I’ve tried to use it as ID and it’s worked but I’ve also been turned down plenty of times. I was asked to leave a bar once because the bartender assumed I was too drunk.”
JOE is well impressed with the ingenuity of this idea and is now looking into getting some 'Ridiculously Handsome Discount' cards done.
