It is believed that the two women went missing on Wednesday.

A search is underway for two women who are believed to be missing after going paddle boarding off the Galway coast.

The alarm was raised at 10pm on Wednesday night and a search has been taking place overnight.

Gardaí and the Coast Guard are carrying out searches of the coastline in the Furbo beach area of Connemara, following reports of two females “failing to return from swimming in the sea”, Gardaí have said.

It is believed that two RNLI lifeboats and two coast guard units are involved in the search.

Anyone who may have potential information is being urged to dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

On Thursday morning, Galway United issued a callout for volunteers and boat owners to assist with the search.
