It follows a heated argument involving the Senator last week.
Independent Senator Sharon Keogan has resigned from the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth over no longer feeling "safe" as a member of it, according to reports.
Multiple outlets state that the senator resigned on Wednesday from the children's committee in an email, in which she said she will continue to sit on the Joint Committee on International Surrogacy.
"I no longer feel safe or protected as a member of the Committee and have made this difficult decision as a result of that," the email read,
the Irish Examiner reports.
Last Thursday, the Joint Oireachtas Committee on International Surrogacy was
suspended after a heated argument involving Keogan and Senator Lynn Ruane.
Keogan was accused of having a “personal bigotry” as well as being “cold” and “crude” towards those who shared their personal experiences.
JOE has reached out to Keogan for comment.
