Several Irish counties issued Status Yellow rain warning

Spells of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected.

Spells of heavy rain, with the possibility of thunderstorms, are expected across Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford.

The warning will be valid from 12pm tomorrow, Thursday, August 27, until 3am on Friday.

Localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions have been listed as possible impacts in the affected areas, while outdoor events may also be impacted by the heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Reporting on the warning, Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said more than 20mm of rain is possible.

In its national outlook, Met Éireann said tomorrow will start mostly dry, but rain will spread east and south, heavy and thundery at times, while the west and northwest stay warmer with sunny spells. The night will bring scattered rain, locally heavy and thundery, before turning drier across the west. Mist and fog may develop in light westerly breezes, with lowest temperatures of 13 to 16C.

Friday will bring brighter or sunny spells, along with scattered showers, some heavy and thundery, particularly across Ulster. Temperatures will reach highs of 18 to 23C.

Saturday will start cloudy and wet, but rain will quickly clear eastwards. Sunny spells and showers will follow from the west, becoming largely dry by evening with some late sunshine. Highs will range from 16 to 21C, coolest in the northwest, with winds turning west to northwest.

Sunday will be dull and wet, with widespread rain becoming heavy and persistent at times. It will be cooler, with highs of 16 to 18C in moderate, variable westerly winds.
