An inspection took place in a pub in Clane on Wednesday evening.

A number of people were found present in a licensed premises in a pub in Kildare during an inspection by Gardaí on Wednesday (11 November).

Gardaí in Clane are investigating the incident as part of Operation Navigation and a file will now be prepared for the DPP in respect of potential breaches of the Health Act, 1947 COVID Regulations.

Last month, the government introduced additional enforcement powers for An Garda Síochána to deal with breaches of Covid-19 regulations.

An amendment of the Health Act 1947 allows for the introduction of a new system of tiered fines, including fixed penalty notices which can be set up to €500.

As part of the Level 5 restrictions in place throughout the country, pubs have been shut since late October.

Kildare Gardaí thanked the public for their cooperation in this matter and in the general compliance with the current regulations.

An Garda Síochána says it continues to appeal to all citizens to comply with Public Health Guidelines and Regulations in order to continue to save lives.
