A lot of us have been here.

Ever been to Majorca? Well, you may want to check the water next time you’re there. There was major panic at the weekend when a large shark was spotted swimming close to the shoreline.

We’re not talking about few a hundred metres out from the shore – it was right up near the beach. One witness recalls hearing the lifeguards shouting, “Shark. Everyone out of the water”, before the beach was cleared.

The 8ft shark was swimming at Can Pastilla beach, which is just up the coast from Magaluf.

The beach was temporarily closed while officials from Palma Aquarium dealt with the situation.

According to Sky News, the shark had a hook in its mouth which caused serious damage. The aquarium workers were forced to put it down as the damage from the injuries was “irreversible”.

The beach was later reopened but swimmers were not allowed to go too far out to sea.
