PICS: Signs placed along the canal in Dublin aim to discourage unsociable behaviour on sunny evenings

The signs warn of a 'flesh-eating bug' that preys on victims on sunny evenings.

Have you spotted them?

We don’t need to tell you that it’s been pretty damn hot in Ireland in the last week or so and we’ve been making the most of the fine weather while it lasts.

In Dublin, a little bit of sunshine is all the encouragement some folks need to grab a big bag of cans and plonk themselves along the canal for a spot of evening drinking in the sunshine.

If you didn’t come across it yourself, these were some of the scenes in the capital over the weekend.

For the most part, it’s all good, clean fun, but when there’s alcohol involved, it can get sometimes get out of hand and there have been some unsavoury pictures doing the rounds of the mess that’s been left behind in recent days.

In an effort to encourage more responsible behaviour at some of the hotspots along the canal, Irish creative agency TBWA Dublin put up signs warning of a ‘flesh-eating bug’ that likes to feed off rowdy prey during the hours of 8pm – 2am on sunny days.

No flesh eating bug exists, of course – or, at least, not to our knowledge – but if it helps to remind revellers to pay a bit more heed to their surroundings when they’re out enjoying the sunshine then it’s no harm.

By the sound of the weather forecast, bags of cans by the canal doesn’t look like such an appealing prospect for the foreseeable future, but fingers crossed our summer hasn’t already been and gone just yet.
