Coveney said Ireland will still act with “more caution” than other countries in the European Union.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney has said that international travel could return as early as July for people who are fully vaccinated.
Speaking on RTE’s The Tonight Show on Wednesday, Coveney said that travel abroad will return as soon as it is safe to do so.
“The likely scenario here is that certainly in August, but perhaps even in July, we may well see international travel being a possibility again for people who are fully vaccinated.
“I think though, we will act with probably more caution than many other countries in the European Union, that is because I think as an island we have managed now to get Covid levels down to a manageable level.”
Currently, travel for non-essential reasons is not permitted and you must quarantine in a hotel for 14 days if you arrive in Ireland from a country on a list of designated locations.
You also have to quarantine if you do not have a negative or not-detected PCR test taken within 72 hours before your flight or if you transited through a designated country in the 14 days before your arrival.
This period can be extended if you test positive and are still symptomatic at the end of the 14-day period.
If you come to Ireland without a negative or not-detected PCR test, you must complete mandatory quarantine in a hotel until a not detected result from a Covid-19 PCR test is returned.
