The singer has paid tribute to Shane, calling him “the very light” of her life.

Singer Sinead O’Connor has announced the tragic passing of her 17-year-old son Shane.

The teenager had been missing since Thursday (6 January) and Gardaí had issued an appeal to locate him.

“My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God,” the singer wrote on Twitter last night.

“May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”

She later posted a picture of her son and a link to the Bob Marley song “Ride Natty Ride”, which she dedicated to Shane.

“This is for my Shaney. The light of my life. The lamp of my soul,” the singer said.

“My blue-eyed baby. You will always be my light. We will always be together. No boundary can separate us.”
