Now, one of O'Connor's former partners has claimed that she died of a broken heart.
Dermot Hayes, who dated O'Connor for two years, suggested that Sinead couldn't go on with a broken heart any longer.
Speaking to the
Irish Sun, Hayes said: "From this you can surmise that a broken heart is a real illness symptom, and a cause of death.
"It doesn’t make Sinead’s passing any less painful. It was more to do with a broken heart than anything else."
Sinead O’Connor is survived by her three children. Her son, Shane, died in 2022 aged 17.
