Very sad news.
Gardaí are investigating the death of a young boy following an incident at a hotel swimming pool in Offaly last weekend.
It is believed the six-year-old got into difficulty in the pool at the Tullamore Court Hotel on Sunday, with Gardaí stating that the incident is being treated as a “tragic accident” at this time.
Following the incident, the boy was taken to Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin in Dublin where he later passed away.
A Garda spokesperson told JOE that a file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.
In a statement, the Tullamore Court Hotel said it was with “great sadness” that it was informed about the child’s death.
“We confirm that an incident occurred on Sunday evening, 29 May, in the hotel pool,” the hotel stated.
“The emergency medical services responded quickly, and the child involved was brought to Midlands Regional Hospital and later transferred to a Dublin hospital.
“It is with great sadness we have been informed that the child passed away on Tuesday, 31 May.
“We offer our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones at this difficult time. The thoughts of all our team are with them.
“We would ask everyone to please respect their privacy.”
