Man in his 60s dies at Devil’s Chimney waterfall in Sligo

Very sad news.

A man has died after suffering a fall at the Devil’s Chimney waterfall in Glencar, Sligo.

The incident occurred on Monday evening (1 August).

Gardaí and emergency services engaged in an operation to rescue the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene after being located.

The search operation, carried out by Gardaí personnel, Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue, the National Ambulance Service and the Irish Coast Guard, was officially stood down at 2am.

The deceased man was aged in his 60s. A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána noted to JOE that foul play is not suspected at this time.

Investigations are ongoing.

According to RTÉ News, the man was on holiday from Galway with his partner when the accident took place. It is understood that the man became disoriented and fell down a gully into the stream.
