The consignment was brought from Holyhead.

Revenue Officers in Dublin Port have seized more than 25,000 litres of smuggled beer with a retail value of €105,000.

The seizure was made on 26 April and represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €52,000 in VAT and Excise Duty.

The consignment was detained based on routine profiling to identify alcohol products that may be diverted onto the market without payment of the tax due, when it arrived in a foreign registered truck from Holyhead.

Both the truck and the smuggled beer were seized.

Investigations are ongoing.

Revenue requests that any information in relation to tax evasion, smuggling or the illegal trade in alcohol or tobacco should report this to their confidential phone number 1800 295 295.
