A snake is reported to have caused a ruckus on a plane on Monday (17 October), drawing comparisons to the 2006 Samuel L. Jackson movie Snakes on a Plane.

However, unlike the film, NBC News states that the incident occurred on United Airlines Flight 2038 which was travelling from Tampa in Florida to New Jersey.

The outlet also says that there was only one creature onboard which was a non-venomous garter snake.

According to News 12 New Jersey, one person on the flight said that, as the plane was taxiing on the runway after landing at Newark Liberty International Airport, passengers in business class began shrieking and pulling their feet up.

NBC News reports that passengers alerted crew members on the flight to the situation, who then called the “appropriate authorities”.

Following this, the Port Authority Police Department and wildlife operations removed the creature from the plane and later released it into the wild.

No one was injured in the incident and it is currently unclear how the snake boarded the flight.
