Snow ice warning

A wild night ahead.

Remember last weekend?

The snow and the difficult road conditions and the delays at Dublin Airport?

Not the best, really.

Well, we might be in for a repeat.

As of Friday morning, we knew to expect an especially cold weekend, but now Met Éireann has made it official.

On Friday night (8 March), the meteorological service issued a status yellow snow-ice warning for nine counties.

Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford, Louth, Meath, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo are affected, with the warning valid from Saturday 9 March at 1am through until 8am.

Wintry showers are expected overnight and early on Saturday, giving a risk of snowfall accumulations of between one and five centimetres.

As for the rest of the weekend, cold weather will likely lead to some rain, hail, sleet and snow in areas across the country.

Saturday night will be increasingly cold with showers turning from rain and sleet to snow especially on higher ground and in Ulster

Sunday is set to be a very cold day with sunny spells and wintry showers of rain hail, sleet and snow.

Highest temperatures will be from 4 to 7 degrees with fresh, gusty westerly winds, strong in coastal areas.

On Sunday night, showers will become more isolated with lowest temperatures of 0 to 2 degrees with frost and icy patches in places.
