Because one weather warning for today obviously wasn’t enough.

After issuing a status yellow wind warning for six counties earlier on Tuesday, Met Éireann have issued a fresh status yellow weather warning ahead of the arrival of sleet and snow in the coming days.

The warning, issued at 7pm on Tuesday evening, warns of scattered heavy thundery showers on Wednesday and Thursday, with rain occasionally turning into sleet and possibly snow in places.

The northwest of the country is most likely to be affected by the wintry showers, although those of you giddily hoping for a repeat of the blanket of snow that fell at the weekend will be disappointed to learn that there is likely to be less than three centimetres this time around.

More pertinently, however, the showers and cold temperatures will lead to slippery roads and paths due to frost and ice, particularly in sheltered spots, so be sure to take the necessary precautions if you are behind the wheel or out and about on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

The snow-ice warning comes into effect on Wednesday at 11am and expires at 8pm on Thursday, with the weekend predicted to bring slightly milder conditions than what Ireland has experienced in the last few days.
