It’s getting icy out there.

Met Éireann has followed up on yesterday’s weather warning for nine counties with a weather warning for the whole country.

While yesterday’s warning elapsed at 8am on Saturday (9 March), the second one will soon come into effect, starting at 11pm tonight. This time, the entire country is included in the status yellow warning.

Met Éireann is forecasting “scattered thundery showers of hail, sleet and snow expected during the period. Poor visibility, with slippery and icy conditions will occur at times” to last all the way through Sunday and up until 6am on Monday morning. Drivers should be especially careful.

A gale wind warning was also issued off the coast of Ireland at 7am this morning. West to northwest winds will reach gale force for a time this morning on coasts from Valentia to Slyne Head to Rossan Pt. A small craft warning is also in place: “West to northwest winds will reach force 6 or higher this morning on coasts from Rossan Pt to Howth Head to Valentia.”
