Some good news for anyone travelling to England in the near future

Carl Kinsella

Planning a trip to the UK?

Financially speaking, now is the best time in the last 12 months to exchange your Euro for pounds sterling, as the exchange rate is at its most favourable since January 2015.

The current exchange rate as of 13:43, January 20 is 77p on the Euro, meaning that the Euro has more purchasing power abroad than at any time in the past year.

This trend could continue – the value of the sterling has declined by 4% since the outset of 2016, according to RTÉ.

This is the pounds longest downward streak since 1999, which is good news for anyone who wants to travel to the UK – but worse news for Ireland’s own tourism and export markets, which are aided by a strong pound – as it means that Britons are more likely to travel and spend here.

Either way, if you’d been thinking about going over to catch Six Nations game – your Euro will certainly be stronger than it was during last year’s tournament.
