The Boy Who Lived is all grown up.

Details of the upcoming Harry Potter play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, have been pretty thin on the ground so far but JK Rowling has now confirmed that the play will focus on Harry’s life as a husband and a father.

The Harry Potter books are as close as any series has ever come to universally adored, and many are already keenly anticipating the new play. The newly released official synopsis of the play has ramped up those levels of expectation. It states:

…While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

You’d think killing Voldemort (no spoiler alert here, you’ve had more than enough time) would drastically improve Harry’s circumstances but apparently fatherhood has its own challenges for the world’s best known wizard.

All things considered, it’s unlikely that anyone from the movie cast will reprise their role, but it hasn’t been ruled out yet. Previews for the play will begin next June, and tickets will go on sale at 11am for those who have already registered for priority tickets.

Sadly, we’re pretty sure that shouting ‘Accio tickets!’ won’t work, but if it does, you can expect a letter from Hogwarts shortly before the next school year begins.
