South Carolina man tries to pay for meal with trillion dollar bill; attempt to do so is surprisingly unsuccessful

Places of business that have cash registers have to be vigilant about counterfeit notes every now and again, but we doubt employees in a restaurant in Sumter, South Carolina had to resort to any scientific methods to prove that the tender used by a 53-year old man to pay for a meal on Valentine’s Day recently was anything but legal.

According to Collier’s magazine thestate.com, police were called to an Applebee’s restaurant in the town on Valentine’s Day after a man known as Michael Williams tried to pay for his meal with a trillion dollar bill after his debit card was declined.

Williams was subsequently arrested on an unrelated charge of contempt of magistrate’s court, while unsubstantiated reports suggest that the police gave the following response when Williams requested that they give him back his (admittedly fake) bank note…
