Man dies in stabbing incident after nightclub altercation involving a number of men in Clare

A 23-year-old man has died in a stabbing incident following an altercation involving a number of males in a nightclub in Shannon in Clare in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Gardaí in Shannon are investigating the incident, which occurred following an altercation between a number of males at the Shannon Knights Night Club, Tullyvarraga, Shannon at approximately 2am on Sunday morning.

Two males were injured and taken to University Hospital Limerick following the incident. One male was subsequently pronounced dead in the hospital a short time later. The injuries of the second male, a 22-year-old, are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 19-year-old male was arrested a short time later in connection with the incident and is being detained at Shannon Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.

A post-mortem will take place on Sunday in the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
