Storm Ellen is on the way folks.

A Status Orange storm warning has been issued for seven counties in Ireland.

Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford are expected to be the counties affected by the dangerous winds.

Met Éireann confirmed on Tuesday night that Storm Ellen will track over Ireland on Wednesday night and during Thursday bringing a period of severe and potentially damaging winds.

Associated heavy rain will also bring a risk of flooding.

Due to the combination of storm surge, spring tides and onshore winds there is a potential risk of coastal flooding.

Just the good news we needed after the day we’ve all had today, right?

And sadly, it doesn’t stop there.

A Status Yellow wind warning has also been issued, and that one is for the entire country.

This warning will be valid from 9pm on Wednesday until midnight the following day.

It is said that all of Ireland will be extremely windy, with severe gusts likely and the risk of some disruption.

Ah well. At least, we’re all used to staying indoors at this point.

More information can be found on the Met Éireann website.
