Met Éireann have stated the warning will remain in place until Friday morning.
While we have already been warned that the weather this weekend is going to be quite bad – with temperatures dropping to four below in places, and even expectations of snow – things are also going to be quite bad before the weekend even arrives.
Met Éireann have issued a Status Yellow wind warning on Thursday warning, and have stated that it will remain in place from 6pm on Thursday evening until 9am on Friday morning.
Pretty much the entire west coast of the country will be under the warning, with Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry all singled out.
The official warning states that “This evening and overnight, west to northwest winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of 80 to 110 km/h. Winds will be strongest along coasts and on hills and mountains.”
Additionally, there have been marine warnings set in place for the western coast, too, where westerly winds will reach gale force later today on coasts from Carnsore Point to Loop Head to Bloody Foreland.
