Fry described God as a “maniac” in an interview with Gay Byrne.

Stephen Fry has been accused of being spiritually blind by the incoming head of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, Reverend Ian McNie.

Speaking during an interview with Gay Byrne for the RTE show The Meaning of Life on Sunday, actor and writer Fry described a “capricious, mean-minded, stupid God,” visibly shaking the former host of The Late Late Show with his level of honesty.

Now Rev. McNie – sworn in on Tuesday and taking up office in June – has labelled Fry as being spiritually blind and only confirming what it says in the bible.

He said: “Until Stephen Fry’s spiritual blind eyes are opened he will say what he has said, because he has said what he has said he has only confirmed what the Bible teaches.

“He has been an asset to the church cause, enabling us to know that the Bible is true.

“I felt sorry for the man that his understanding of life is simply confined to the here and now and from his position of atheism there is no hope for the future.”
