The entirety of Ireland has been issued wind warnings.
Yesterday (Friday, 18 October), JOE reported that all of Ireland had been hit with wind weather warnings as Storm Ashley is set to batter the country this weekend.
Ahead of Ashley’s arrival, Met Éireann has said conditions will turn “very wet and windy” on Saturday night and during Sunday.
“Storm Ashley will affect Ireland on Sunday with the peak winds occurring very early in the morning, and again during the afternoon and evening,” its current forecast reads.
“Heavy rain will clear northeastwards during the morning with sunshine and scattered blustery showers following. More persistent rain will feed into western and northern areas later with isolated thunderstorms and spot flooding possible.
“Strong to gale force southwest winds will bring the potential for some disruption, especially in Atlantic coastal areas, with storm force winds off the west and northwest coasts. Coastal flooding is likely due to very high tides.”
As such, the Irish meteorological service has extended its Status Orange wind warning to now include the counties Clare, Donegal, Galway and Mayo.
It is scheduled to take effect from midday to 9pm on Sunday.
