Storm Deirdre

Two separate weather warnings are in place.

On the plus side, this weekend has plenty of Champions Cup rugby, Liverpool vs Man United, and The Innocent Man on Netflix, but on the weather front, things aren’t looking too good as Storm Deirdre approaches.

As mentioned previously, the developing depression is expected to arrive in Ireland this afternoon and conditions will take a turn for the worse in the evening, as stated by Met Éireann.

At present, a status orange wind warning and a status yellow rainfall warning are in place for the whole of Ireland.

With regards to the orange warning, we’re told that west or northwest winds will reach mean speeds of 65km/h with gusts of 100km/h generally, with disruptive and damaging gusts to 130km/h likely for a few hours in western and southern counties in the late afternoon and transferring eastwards during the evening.

Heavy rainfall is also expected throughout Saturday.

For anyone that’s out and about, Dublin Fire Brigade are asking people to plan ahead if they’re doing any Christmas shopping, drive safely with regards to the conditions, and leave space for cyclists in strong winds.

As for Saturday morning, it’s expected to be wet with rain becoming widespread throughout the country with some heavy, possibly thundery showers in parts of the south and west especially. There’s also the chance of some local spot flooding.

Disruptive and damaging gusts will develop for a few hours later this afternoon in parts of Munster and Connacht too.

These gusty winds will move into the more northern and eastern counties as the day develops. However, the rain and winds should ease off tonight with conditions turning cold overnight.

As for Sunday, expect to see widespread rain or hail showers during the morning. As the day develops, showers will be seen in the western and southwestern counties in the afternoon with some better sunny spells in midland and eastern areas.

With regards to Sunday night, frost is expected in the midland and eastern areas. Strong winds will being some rain and drizzle to western and northwestern areas before dawn.

All things considered, we’re not liking Deirdre.

Time to get cosy on the couch.
