As Storm Elin is set to hit Ireland on Saturday, Met Éireann have named another storm – Fergus.
According to the Irish meteorological service, Storm Fergus is set to arrive in Ireland on Sunday, bringing “very strong onshore winds, coupled with high waves and high tides”.
A new Status Orange warning has been issued for Clare, Galway and Mayo, which is set to take effect from 3pm to 8pm on Sunday.
The alert states that weather conditions could cause “localised coastal flooding and wave overtopping”.
Status Yellow wind warnings for Sunday have also been issued to Cavan, Clare, Dublin, Galway, Kildare, Leitrim, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Offaly, Roscommon, Sligo and Westmeath.

Storm Elin to hit Ireland this weekend as Status Orange warnings issued
Three counties have been hit with Status Orange weather warnings this weekend on account of Storm Elin.
Named overnight by Met Éireann, its forecast states that Saturday (9 December) will see “very windy or stormy” conditions due to Elin’s arrival.
It also said that “some severe or damaging gusts” are expected.

As such, multiple weather warnings have been issued, including Status Orange wind warnings for Donegal, Dublin and Wicklow.
The first that will take effect is Wicklow’s, which is valid from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, followed by Dublin’s which will take effect from midday to 3pm the same day.
Both read: “Storm Elin will generate gale force west to northwest winds and severe gusts, causing disruption and travelling difficulties.”
The Donegal alert is valid from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday. It also warns of the potential for “wave overtopping”.

Storm Elin Status Orange warnings issued
On top of this, Met Éireann has issued two Status Yellow wind warnings for Saturday for the provinces of Connacht and Leinster, as well as the counties Cavan, Clare, Monaghan and Tipperary.
Also, for Saturday, two Status Yellow wind and rain warnings for Donegal have been published.
On Sunday, meanwhile, two more Status Yellow wind warnings are in place for Galway, Leitrim and Mayo.
