Just to be clear: an official snow day has not yet been declared.
In light of the new Status Red snow and ice weather warning for several counties, it is expected that the Department Of Education will make a full statement on school closures on Wednesday morning.
In the meantime, Minister for Education Richard Bruton took to Twitter to announce that while they will continue to monitor the situation, for the time being, they are allowing each individual school to make the decision as to whether or not they will close for the day.
Advice today: Decisions on school closures will be made locally by each school individually depending on the circumstances in their area, this includes schools in the red areas. We will continue to monitor the situation and update further throughout the day #beastfromtheeast

As Storm Emma continues to disrupt the majority of transport on the east coast of the country, several schools have already announced their closures for the day, as well as Bus Eireann confirming that they will not be running any school transport services operating in Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath and Wicklow.
