Two students hospitalised following ‘incident’ on campus at NUI Galway

Students have been encouraged to contact emergency services if aware of anyone who may have taken or had a bad reaction to a substance.

Two students had to be hospitalised on Wednesday evening following an incident on campus at NUI Galway.

Speaking to JOE, Dr Pat Morgan, Vice President for Student Experience at NUI Galway said that one of the students was released from hospital on Thursday.

“We are not currently concerned about the condition of the other student, we have also provided support for other students on campus who may have been impacted.

“Our priority is looking after the health and safety of all of our students,” she said.

In a statement, the university confirmed that its emergency response protocol had been operated and that emergency services came to the support of the students involved.

“There was an incident on campus today involving two students who were hospitalised,” the statement read.

“The University activated its emergency response protocol and emergency services came to the support of the students, who are now under medical care.

“Our campus community is reminded to stay safe and mind each other. If anyone is aware of someone who may have taken a substance/ had a bad reaction, contact emergency services immediately – 112.

“The number for campus security is 091493333.”
