Survey reveals the counties Irish people really struggle to identify on a map

Know anyone from these counties?

We know that you all love a good quiz about Irish geography and we’ve even tested you on the topography of certain counties; however, some people still need to go back to school.

It’s fitting that on the week of Halloween, a scary survey has revealed that quite a large proportion of Irish people can’t name two counties on a map.

Both Longford and Armagh were ranked as the least recognisable counties on the map of Ireland, with less than half of the people surveyed able to identify Longford (48%) and exactly half able to identify Armagh.

The survey of 1,000 people was conducted by the hotel group Jurys Inn, with research also showing that Dublin residents are least likely to correctly identify all counties on a map of Ireland; only 38% of Dubs were able to correctly pinpoint Longford and Armagh.

We’re not going to open that whole can of worms!

Elsewhere, in terms of the most identifiable counties on the map that are not Dublin, Sligo (81%), Galway (81%) and Louth (81%) are considered to be the most recognisable counties for people to identify.

Limerick, meanwhile, isn’t far behind in fourth place (78%).

Yikes, some people really do have a scary knowledge of geography. We think they should take these tests to improve.
