The shooting occurred shortly after midnight on Monday May 6 in the Knocknarea Road area of Drimnagh.
A man was pronounced dead at the scene.
RTE News report that the man's body remains at the scene while a post-mortem is being arranged.
The scene of the shooting is currently preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
