A woman in her 20s has died after falling from the Cliffs of Moher in Co. Clare.
The incident happened on Saturday, May 4, when the woman ‘lost her footing’ and fell from the top of the popular tourist attraction.
It is understood that the woman was visiting the cliffs with three of her friends when the incident occurred and that all three friends were of different nationalities and not based in Ireland.
A search and rescue was started shortly 1.20pm when the alarm was raised, with various parties dispatched to the scene, including members of the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard and Gardaí as well as the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter.
The woman’s body was located and recovered from the water by the crew of the Aran Island lifeboat, where her remains were transported to Doolin Pier.
The body was then taken to Doolin Coast Guard station where the woman was pronounced deceased.

A Garda spokesman said on Saturday: “Gardai and emergency services conducted an operation following reports of an incident at the Cliffs Moher this afternoon.”
“The body of a woman, aged in her early 20s, was removed from the water by emergency services.”
The Cliffs of Moher stand at 702ft (214m) at their highest point and around 390ft (120m) at their most southern end at Hags Head, which is near to where Saturday’s incident occurred.
The popular tourist location has been the site of multiple deaths over the years, with a 26-year-old Indian man falling to his death in 2019.
Another incident occurred in 2007 when a Hungarian man in his 20s also fell from the cliffs to his death.
It is believed that in both cases the men were attempting to take photos.
