Swimmer in her 50s dies after getting into difficulty off the Wicklow coast

Emergency services attended the scene following reports of three swimmers in trouble.

A woman in her 50s has died after getting into difficulty swimming off the Wicklow coast on Saturday (23 April).

Gardaí and emergency services attended the North Beach in Greystones shortly after 12.30pm following reports of three swimmers in trouble.

Three women, all in their 50s, were taken from the water.

One of the women was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has since been taken to the mortuary at Loughlinstown where a post-mortem will be conducted at a later date.

Another woman was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital to be treated for her injuries, while the third woman was treated at the scene by emergency services.
