TD for Cavan-Monaghan Seán Conlan out on bail after court appearance on ‘glassing’ assault charges

Out on bail

Carl Kinsella

In the immortal words of Tupac Shakur…

“Out on bail, fresh outta jail, California dreamin’.”

We’re pretty sure that’s probably not what’s going through Independent TD Seán Conlan’s head right now, but maybe, just maybe, as he posted €100 bail bond this morning, the lyrics crossed his mind.

Conlan was in court over an incident that occurred in his family pub in Co. Monaghan this September, where he is alleged to have attacked a man with a pint glass, causing injury to the man’s arm that required stitches.

The former Fine Gael TD is facing a charge of assault causing harm, as well as a second charge under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act of 1990.

Conlan, 40, resigned from Fine Gael two weeks ago, supposedly due to the party’s position on pylons.

He will not have to appear in court again until next January.
