The items may cause health risks for those with lactose intolerance.

Tesco is recalling two of its popular ready-meals due to a presence of milk – notice of which remains undeclared on the packaging.

The two products to be recalled are the Hearty Food Company Cottage Pie and the Hearty Food Company Sausage and Mash – both of which contain a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

The Hearty Food Company Cottage Pie is being recalled with the use-by dates of 24, 27, 28 and 30 April as well as the 1st-5th of May.

The Hearty Food Company Sausage and Mash is being recalled with the use-by dates of 25, 26 and 29 April as well as the 1st and 2nd of May.

A Tesco spokesman said: “We have been made aware by our supplier that due to a manufacturing error, certain date codes of the Hearty Food Company chilled Cottage Pie and chilled Sausage & Mash may contain small quantities of milk.

“These products should not contain milk and, as such, milk will not be listed on the packaging.”

Should you have bought either meal from the store, both Tesco and the FSAI urge you not eat it.

Purchasers should keep it sealed and return it to your local store as soon as possible where you will be issued a full refund.
