Texting naked photos and videos of your ex without them knowing is now a crime in Wales and England

About time

Revenge porn is now against the law.

“Revenge porn” is when someone who has been dumped shares naked pictures and videos of their ex without them knowing.

It can range from sending the photos and videos to their friends by text or social media, or else they post them on porn sites.

It’s an absolutely shocking thing to do, and now it’s now officially a crime in England and Wales, after 149 allegations of “revenge porn” between 2012 and 2014.

According to BBC News, the vast majority of victims were women and six incidents resulted in police action.

If anyone is found guilty of “revenge porn” under the new laws, they could face up to two years in jail.

Scotland and Northern Ireland are considering similar laws, so we expect there to be a discussion in Ireland in the near future.

Jennifer Lawrence (above) was one of a number of celebrities who had naked photos leaked online last year.
