A few weeks ago, Minister Charlie Flanagan was joined by the Acting Garda Commissioner Dónall Ó’Cualáin to open the new Garda Headquarters in Renmore, Galway and the Gardaí have now shared a few images of their new location.

As stated by their official website: “The new 11,000 square metre development will cater for a full range of operational requirements at district, divisional and regional level.”

This includes secure detention areas, incident management facilities, a unit to support victims of crime, public offices, garages and property storage facilities. Aside from these aforementioned facilities, there’s also a public reception, general office and various conference and training facilities-  this includes a firing range for specialist units.

This is the first purpose built indoor firing range in the country.

The recent development is just is one of three major Garda projects that have been recently completed. There’s also a new Divisional Headquarters in Wexford and another one that’s located in Kevin Street, Dublin.

In terms of its architectural design, the new Garda Headquarters in Galway consists of different building blocks that interconnect to form a secure courtyard at the centre of the scheme. Overall, the new building covers 11,000 sq.m and consists of 2-5 storey buildings – depending on where you are in the building.

The new HQs are also environmentally conscious because it’s set to achieve an ‘A’ energy rating. It also has green roofs and solar panels for water heating.
