The rap song about Labour’s deputy leader Alan Kelly is simply glorious

Paul Moore

“Women like to say he looks like Brian O’Driscoll”.

It’s been a busy week in Irish politics because with the impending General Election set to take place on February 26th, the jostling for positions of power and seats in the Dáil has already begun. Newstalk journalist Richard Chambers has been a busy man lately, like other political journalists in the country he’s been following every breaking development, and an old rap song about Labour’s deputy leader Alan Kelly has resurfaced.

A rap song that was used by Tipperary man in his MEP bid from 2009 has just appeared again online and it’s worthy of rivaling anything that Nas, Dr Dre or NWA have ever produced. Ok, it’s not that good but this tune about the current Minister For Environment is good enough to give Michael Healy-Rae’s recent effort a run for its money.

The song originally became an internet phenomenon seven years ago but it has since vanished.

While Richard Chambers did the hard hitting investigative work, the song is actually a creation of Cork-based rapper GMC Beats. The musician has no political affiliation whatsoever and he even runs a few workshops in a bid to help educate schoolchildren about social issues.

Here’s a flavour of Labour because this is straight outta Portroe yo!
