Five years ago, The Rock becoming president would have sounded ridiculous. Now, it just sounds right.
Fanciful as it might sound (even in an era where Donald Trump is president), the possibility of Dwayne Johnson, AKA The Rock, becoming the next president of the United States took its first steps towards reality this week.
According to The Hill, a campaign committee formally filed ‘Run the Rock 2020’ with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Sunday to draft the actor and former WWE star for president.
The paperwork was reportedly filed by one Kenton Tilford, a West Virginian man whose connections to Johnson are unclear.
Becoming president, or even becoming involved in politics, is something that The Rock has spoken about on a number of occasions in the recent past.
After the Washington Post ran a piece in July of last year speculating on the possibility of him winning an election if he decided to run, The Rock responded on Instagram, saying that he cared deeply about the United States and that “the idea of one day becoming President to create real positive impact and global change is very alluring”.

On Saturday Night Live earlier this year, meanwhile, The Rock announced his intention to run for President in 2020, with Tom Hanks as his running mate.
