This is heartbreaking.

The pictures of a young Syrian boy who washed up on a beach in Turkey have caused shockwaves across Europe in the last 24 hours.

The upsetting images show a lifeless dark-haired boy, clothed in a red T-shirt and shorts, lying face down in the surf close to Bodrum, one of Turkey’s resort towns.

According to reports this morning, the toddler has been named by Turkish media as three-year-old Aylan Kurdi.

Aylan is believed to have died alongside his five-year-old brother who had been travelling on the same boat which was bound for the Greek island of Kos.

The two boys were reportedly from the city of Kobani in Syria, which has seen heavy fighting between IS militants and Kurdish forces.

It’s believed the boys are two of 11 Syrians who died trying to cross the Mediterranean on two boats.
