JOE

You may be slap bang in the middle of your Christmas shopping at the moment, but it’s never too early to start planning ahead to one of the biggest parties of the year – the Three New Year’s Eve celebrations.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puGcJBjwcfo Nominated as one of the top 5 New Year’s Eve attractions in the world by Lonely Planet last year, last year’s Countdown Concert on College Green saw crowds of over 15,000 on the streets of Dublin, with over 1.3 million people tuning in to the live RTE TV broadcast. This year’s festival atmosphere will be amplified by the eclectic musical line up and stunning projections on Trinity College to see out the final few hours of 2013. There are only 19 more sleeps until 2014 is upon us (check out this handy Three countdown clock if you don’t believe us) and so, to get you in the mood for the spectacular upcoming event, JOE has picked some of our top activites to check out when 31st December  2013 rolls around.

The People’s Procession of Light

Taking place on St. Stephen’s Green at 6pm, this free, fun-filled, family-friendly event will once again illuminate the streets of Dublin and will mark the closing of The Gathering 2013, with theatrical street performers and enchanting characters providing a visual and musical spectacle beyond imagination. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWLW5KyJqT0

Countdown Concert

For JOE, this event is the real jewel in the crown of Three’s NYE celebrations as we’ll be donning our pork pie hats and braces as we prepare to get our knees up for the performance of iconic ska band Madness.

With a bigger and better line up than ever, the crackin’ Countdown Concert will also feature Irish singer-songwriter Ryan Sheridan, pop sensations MKS(the original Sugababes lineup), retro rockers The Strypes and YouTube heroes Seo Linn – all providing an incredible night’s entertainment.

Trinity College Light Display

Following on from the magnificent musical performances of the aforementioned artists, as Dublin counts down to midnight, the incomparable Trinity College will be illuminated with magical 3D projections that will be broadcasted live to audiences all over Ireland and around the world.

Magical Midnight Moment…

You know those new socks that Santa will inevitably get you for Christmas? Prepare to have them blown off as a spectacular midnight light display is sure to light up the night sky in a brilliant and wonderful Winter way…

The Big Brunch

Just when you thought all of the New Year festivities were dying down, the party continues right into the next morning as your first tasty meal of 2014 is rustled up at Meeting House Square from 11am as you’ll be served a treat of hearty brunch, live music, a Vintage Tea Dance, a group Céilí, children’s entertainment, theatrical performances, food stalls and much, much more. Don’t worry, those New Year resolutions can afford to wait just one more day… And, as if all of those amazing activites weren’t enough to get you in the mood, check out this great clip of last year’s highlights to whet your appetite in the meantime.

Ah, it seems like only a year ago that this video was recorded…
