The west coast of Ireland set for more heavy flooding this weekend

Joe Harrington

What a disaster.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange weather warning for the weekend, with potentially 80 mm of rain forecast for the Munster, Connacht and Leinster regions.

The Shannon region is expected to be one of the worst affected areas with Clare County Council putting out a “severe flood warning” for the entire county.

The recent heavy rain has seen water levels rise by up to six inches and levels are expected to continue rising until early next week.

Members of the Defence Forces are helping county council workers and emergency units with flood defence measures in the worst-hit areas.

Fingers crossed it isn’t as bad as expected.
