There’s a cat running for mayor in Mexico

There are many things we love about Mexico, like fajitas, senoritas and cerveza, and now finally we have another one: a mayor that's also a cat.

There are many things we love about Mexico, like fajitas, senoritas and cerveza, and now finally we have another one: a mayor that’s also a cat.

Fed up with the corrupt politicians, often called ‘rats’, in Mexico, a group of local students in the town of Xalapa have decided to put forward the best candidate around: Morris the cat

Their reasoning is that with so many rats around, only a cat can restore order, and his campaign looks to have the momentum of a runaway freight train, as he has over 130,000 likes on Facebook, and according to these polls, is much more than a whisker ahead.

The vote takes place on July 7th, and if these numbers are anything to go by, Morris will certainly be feline fine on election day as he heads towards a landslide victory.

He has some very snazzy election posters as well, that have helped him claw his way to the top of the (scratching) poll.

Next stop is a seat in purr-liament, but even if that doesn’t work out, there’s no need to worry, whatever happens he’ll land on his feet.

Unfortunately, there’s a tragic turn to this tail, as it seems Morris can’t be elected seeing as he’s a cat.

His campaign staff have asked people to draw a picture of a cat or write Morris on their ballot paper in protest.

Hat-tip to Buzz Patrol for the picture.
