There are many things we love about Mexico, like fajitas, senoritas and cerveza, and now finally we have another one: a mayor that's also a cat.
Fed up with the corrupt politicians, often called 'rats', in Mexico, a group of local students in the town of Xalapa have decided to put forward the best candidate around: Morris the cat
Their reasoning is that with so many rats around, only a cat can restore order, and his campaign looks to have the momentum of a runaway freight train, as he has over 130,000 likes on Facebook, and according to these polls, is much more than a whisker ahead.

The vote takes place on July 7
th, and if these numbers are anything to go by, Morris will certainly be feline fine on election day as he heads towards a landslide victory.
He has some very snazzy election posters as well, that have helped him claw his way to the top of the (scratching) poll.

Next stop is a seat in purr-liament, but even if that doesn't work out, there's no need to worry, whatever happens he'll land on his feet.
Unfortunately, there's a tragic turn to this tail, as it seems Morris can't be elected seeing as he's a cat.
His campaign staff have asked people to draw a picture of a cat or write Morris on their ballot paper in protest.
Hat-tip to Buzz Patrol for the picture.
