There’s a very good reason not to go speeding on Irish roads tomorrow

Slow down lads

Conor Heneghan

Don’t say you haven’t been warned.

Safe driving is something that should be encouraged at all times, but drivers who regularly exceed speed limits on Irish roads are at greater risk of getting caught tomorrow.

This Friday, August 28, is ‘National Slow Down Day’ and will be marked with an intensive national speed enforcement operation by the Gardai for a 24-hour period between 7am tomorrow morning and 7am on Saturday.

The operation is supported by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and other stakeholders, with the Gardai aiming to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding and attempt to increase compliance with speed limits on the roads.

High visibility Garda speed enforcement activities will take place on national primary and secondary roads for the duration of the day and all speed enforcement technologies will be used, including laser handheld speed detection devices, Garda speed vans and in-car speed detection systems.

GoSafe vehicles will also be deployed on the day in speed enforcement zones where serious and fatal injury collisions have occurred and in case you needed reminding, all 727 speed enforcement zones are available on the Garda website.

The public are urged to get involved and to encourage safe driving tomorrow via the #ThumbsUp hashtag on Twitter and for more information on what’s involved, click here.

You’ve been warned folks.
