There’s talk of inviting Prince Charles to a 1916 commemorative event

Sure we’re all friends now.

Heather Humphreys, Fine Gael’s Minister for Arts, Heritage and The Gaeltacht has said that Prince Charles is very keen to return to Ireland after his trip to the West in 2015.

According to The Irish Times, Humphreys has said that while the heir to the throne of the United Kingdom would not be invited to any of the main commemorations taking place on the Easter weekend, there would be some events later in the year to which he may get the invite.

Humphreys specifically referred to an event commemorating the Battle of the Somme, which lasted from July 1916 to November 1916, which will take place later in the year, that Charlie might like.

State visits by British monarchs to Irish soil are certainly less controversial than they used to be, so it’s unlikely there’ll be much uproar if Charles and Camilla make their way over – especially if it comes after Ireland have beaten England in the final of the Euros.
