These Dublin politicians illegally put their General Election posters up

Getting ahead of themselves.

Campaign posters for candidates in the upcoming General Election have already been seen around Dublin despite the fact that they’re still forbidden from being displayed.

With the date of the General Election set to be announced tomorrow, expect to see plenty of posters in your local constituency but it seems that a few eager supporters have already taken preemptive action ahead of the impending announcement.

Pamela Kearns is a Labour candidate in Dublin South-West and she has issued an apology after this poster was spotted last night.

Anne-Marie McNally is a Social Democrat candidate for Dublin Mid-West and she spotted posters for Labour candidate Joanna Tuffy – her rival in the same area. Sinn Féin Councillor for Clondalkin Jonathan Graham has lodged a formal complaint with South Dublin County Council regarding these posters also.

Sinn Fein supporters were also guilty of getting ahead of themselves in displaying their support for Swords candidate, Louise O’Reilly.

Legislation allows election posters to be erected from the date the polling day for the election has been announced. Private advertising isn’t illegal before the vote is called though thus making billboards, garden hoardings, road side trailers etc ok.

Any posters that are in place before or after the allowed timeframe are subject to a €150 on-the-spot fine.

For those of you wondering just how many posters are created for an individual candidate then here’s an indication.
